In March 2018 I worked with artists Erika Groeneveld, Rachel Ho, Anita Reynolds and Mike Thorpe to stage How Did It Get So Dark?, an exhibition inspired by the ritual of Tenebrae and ideas of light and dark in our personal and public lives. What happens when the lights go out? How do we live in the darkness? How do we light the candle again?
As with my previous collaboration with twenty-sevenb, I provided the words. The exhibition was staged in the Townley Street Chapel which we blacked out so that the only light was from exhibition objects.

One visitor described it as ‘a room full of slow sounds with colour and words all wrapped together by a sparcity of light …an atmosphere like a dark comfort tent…. Totally moving. Please go and have a look. There is a lot of space in the installation, quiet corners to sit, quite a spirited installation.’
In March-April 2019 we staged the exhibition again, this time at St Ann’s Church in central Manchester. It was wonderful to get the opportunity to share it with a bigger public.
